Machining (milling ) Stainless steel sometimes are not pleasing jobs especailly when the raw material and the design consumes cutting tools quickly. SUS304 or SUS316 is considered as hard cutting material. When machining casted stainless steel material with impurity, it's even worse.

This design, Diamond Grids, is full 3D surface with small radius valleys and the material is peakled hot-rolled SUS304 sheet. Ball-nose mills are required in this case but the "R" of the ball nose has to be small enough to cut the valleys. The 1R ball-nose mill is selected. Meanwhile, machining has to be done in high precision in order to create peaks and valleys in perfect straight lines and to make reflection like a diamond.

Though we used Box Ways CNC machine, heavy duty cutting in this job was not practical. We turned to mill it in high feedrate and push the machine to 8000 RPM but small cutting depth. The machine did not disappoint us. This CNC machined parts was done precisely.
